Wow, what can I say. I have had a terrible month with uptime. I was in Europe for a few weeks and came back to my server restarting randomly. Since I am running this webserver as a virtual PC it wasn’t automatically restarting itself.

Turns out after running some stress tests I was unstable. The heat didn’t seem like it was out of line but I ended up decreasing the overclock from 3.8 to somewhere in the 3.6Ghz range for my E6600. This seems to have solved the issue. Hopefully in the future we’ll be a bit more stable.

Sorry about the ongoing issues.

Edit:Â There will be a bit more downtime in the next week when I install WordPress 3.0 and install windows updates.

Edit 2: WordPress is updated to version 3.0 and all the current windows updates are applied to my Windows Server 2008 box.

The other day I reported that Microsoft would be rolling out a new piracy check update for Windows 7. The update is said to check for 70 known activation exploits by checking the local PC. Upon realizing that a copy of Windows is not genuine, the program will change the user’s desktop to black, leave a watermark showing that it’s not a legal copy, and bug the user with notifications.

According to Engadget, the update is finally beginning to make its way to people’s computers. The update is vaguely titled “Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB971033).” For 32-bit systems, it will probably say “for x86-based Systems.” Just check the KB number to be sure. This is the description of the update:

“This update to Windows Activation Technologies detects activation exploits and tampering to key Windows system files. These exploits try to bypass regular Windows activation and are sometimes included with counterfeit copies of Windows.”

It’s still unclear what the 70 activation exploits are. The update is listed as “Important” meaning it will be installed automatically to users who have enabled automatic updates. Users are able to deselect the update and not allow it to install if they wish. However, if you’re not doing anything wrong to begin with, and you only use legit software, there’s really nothing to worry about.

Microsoft said on Thursday that it plans to release a Windows Activation Technologies Update for Windows 7 that will detect 70 known activation exploits.

The update will be distributed on Microsoft’s Genuine Windows site on February 16 and will be available from the Microsoft Downloads Center on February 17. Joe Williams, Manager of Microsoft’s Genuine Windows team, confirmed the update will also be offered through Windows Update as an ‘Important’ update later this month.

Williams stressed that the update is voluntary and will not jeopardize users privacy. “Although the update contacts Microsoft’s servers to check for new threats…these checks do not include any personally identifiable information” he added.

The update will check for 70 known activation exploits. If any activation exploits are found users will be notified their copy is not genuine and the desktop wallpaper will be switched to a plain black desktop. Periodic reminders and a persistent desktop watermark will also remind users that their copy is not genuine.

Note:

Razor released this game without a launcher initially, and then released a
launcher which was hacked together using an old version of the Securom
launcher and the icon for Bioshock 2. Their launcher is from another game
Besides potentially causing trouble, it is also not very retail of them

Proof:

Version number of our Bioshock2Launcher.exe: 0.1.0.8

Additionally we cracked the launcher for both SP and MP, because they are
not identical launchers

I have added a self-signed SSL certificate to logging in and admin functions. Other aspects of the site can also be browsed using SSL by adding https to the beginning of the urls.

I will be tweaking this in the future to see how it works out.

Because this is a self-signed certificate you need to accept it for it to work properly. This is nothing to be concerned about.

The steps involved for Firefox are show below. You will only have to do this once.

What is Spotify?

Spotify is a new way to enjoy music. Simply download and install, before you know it you’ll be singing along to the genre, artist or song of your choice. With Spotify you are never far away from the song you want.

There are no restrictions in terms of what you can listen to or when. Forget about the hassle of waiting for files to download and fill up your hard drive before you get round to organising them. Spotify is instant, fun and simple.

Because music is social, Spotify allows you to share songs and playlists with friends, and even work together on collaborative playlists, Friday afternoon in the office might never be the same again! We’re music lovers like everyone else.

We want to connect millions of people with their favorite songs by creating a product that people love to use. We respect creativity and believe in fairly compensating artists for their work. We’ve cleared the rights to use the music you’ll listen to in Spotify.

Basically its a really neat program that allows you to instantly stream music legally and for free using a combination of server and perr to peer based technologies. It’s only available in a few countries and with an invite currently. If you’d like to check out this pretty awesome program send me a message with your email or leave a comment on this post and I’ll do my best to get as many invites out at possible.
